ST. LOUIS - Mothers face unique fitness challenges — like finding time to exercise without guilt, dealing with body-image issues, and juggling the demands and stresses of motherhood.

No one understands those challenges better than new mom and 14-year fitness professional Becky Morr.

Now Morr is making it easy for other moms to get fit with the “Mommy Fit Stroller Class.” The class, which will be offered by the BJC WellAware Center beginning May 16, combines exercise, peer interaction and bonding with baby.

“This class allows moms to bring their baby or toddler with them to class so there is no hassle of finding childcare and no guilt about leaving your child while you do something for yourself,” Morr says. “Any mom who is cleared by her doctor to participate in exercise and has a child who still rides in a stroller can participate.”

The classes will be offered 9:30-10:30 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in six-week ongoing sessions from spring through fall. The cost is $60 per six-week session to attend once a week or $95 per six-week session to attend twice a week.

Participants meet at the BJC WellAware Center and walk to Hudlin Park as a group. (During inclement weather, class will take place at the WellAware Center.) Each 60-minute class includes 5 minutes of warm-up, 40 minutes of strength and cardio intervals, 10 minutes of core work, and 5 minutes of flexibility and cool down.

Morr says examples of exercises participants will perform include a walking lunge while pushing the stroller, which provides added resistance, and a “squat and row,” again using the stroller for resistance and balance.

“I am so excited about this class,” Morr says. “I want moms to feel healthier, stronger and more confident after participating in this class. I also want it to be a fun social experience for both mom and child.

“This class is for moms taught by a mom,” Morr adds. “No one knows better the challenges of finding time to work out and getting back your fitness than other moms.”
