We work as a team.
Right now my primary focus in oncology is on the bone marrow transplant unit, where I’m also involved in a research initiative. In rehab, we really work as a team. We have a collective orientation to the different patient care areas so that if another area needs assistance, we’re able to be pulled in to help at any time. I’m assigned to two specific floors; when we meet to assess patient load, we determine whose load is heavy, whose is light, who needs help, who can give help… if we need assistance at any time, we page each other to ensure that all of our patients are being taken care of.
I enjoy the flexibility.
The flexible scheduling is #1 on my list of benefits. I work three 9-hr. and one 8 hr. shifts a week, plus every third Saturday. When I work a Saturday, I’ll have a day off during the week in exchange. The medical coverage is great, too. If we use a BJC HealthCare facility, we get an extra discount. Whatever insurance doesn’t cover, BJC picks up part of that bill. That’s a huge benefit.
