Barnes-Jewish Hospital interpreters are available 24 hours a day for patients and family members who need help with spoken and sign language communication. These services are provided free of charge.
Interpreters are arranged by the physician's office or nursing division. Simply inform your health care provider that you require interpreter support for your visit or procedure and it will be arranged. You have a right to have access to language and interpreter services.
Our team of interpreters can assist in 36 languages, including American Sign Language. Through video or phone conferencing, we offer assistance in nearly 60 more languages. The department also provides cross-cultural consultation for patients and staff and reaches out to the deaf, refugee and immigrant communities providing health screenings and education.
If your English is limited or you are speech or hearing impaired, please ask your provider or nurse to contact interpreter services to arrange for an interpreter to assist you during your stay.
