Spinal Neurosurgeons

Ian Dorward, MD
Dr. Dorward specializes in spinal oncology and spinal column tumors, microsurgery of the brain and spine, minimally invasive spinal decompression and reconstruction surgery and complex spinal deformities, including scoliosis, kyphosis, spondylolisthesis and sagittal imbalance. He also specializes in treating cervical spine and craniocervical junction disorders. Dr. Dorward’s research interests involve outcomes and value assessment in neurosurgery, as well as evaluation of the role of the vestibular system in the development of spinal deformity, and innovations in patient safety. His other research interests include narrative medicine—fiction and nonfiction writing related to medicine—with a particular focus on the process of training and developing surgeons.

Jacob Greenberg, MD
Dr. Greenberg specializes in lumbar stenosis, cervical myelopathy and radiculopathy, craniovertebral junction disease, spinal stenosis, lumbar spondylolisthesis, minimally invasive spine surgery, revision spine surgery and robotic spine surgery.

Dan Hafez, MD
Dr Hafez sees patients for minimally invasive spine surgery (degenerative and deformity spine), robotic/augmented reality-assisted spine surgery, endoscopic spine surgery, artificial disc replacement and Spinal stenosis.

Camilo Molina, MD
Dr. Molina is a board-certified Washington University neurosurgeon with advanced complex spine deformity and oncology training. He specializes in treating a range of spine diseases, including back pain, degenerative back and neck disorders, herniated, ruptured, bulging or slipped discs, myelopathy, nerve compression associated with low back pain, radiculopathy, sciatica, scoliosis with minimally invasive surgery and extreme deformity, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, cervical disc disease, spinal tumors, and neck deformity. Whether it’s a non-surgical treatment option, minimally invasive procedure or complex reconstructive spine surgery, Dr. Molina helps his patients return to their lives in the least disruptive manner. He was a leader on the clinical design team that led to the FDA approval of the first augmented reality mediated spine procedures in the United States and continues to lead development for innovative robotic and augmented reality spine surgery treatment options.

John Ogunlade, MD
Dr Ogunlade sees patients for brain and spinal trauma, and minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery.

Brenton Pennicooke, MD
Dr. Brenton Pennicooke’s clinical interests are dedicated to all aspects of spine management. He specializes in degenerative back and neck disorders, herniated, ruptured, bulging or slipped discs, myelopathy, nerve compression associated with low back pain, radiculopathy, sciatica, scoliosis with minimally invasive surgery, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, spinal tumors, spinal schwannomas, kyphosis, basilar invagination, and spinal cord injuries. Dr. Pennicooke partners with his patients to create a care plan that could include nonsurgical treatment options and, if necessary, surgery. Minimally invasive spine surgery or complex reconstructive spine surgery for adults would be done at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital or Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Dr. Pennicooke is a Washington University School of Medicine Faculty Diversity Scholar and the recipient of the Joint Spine Section Charlie Kuntz Scholar Award and recipient of the Weill Cornell Department of Neurosurgery Bronson Ray Resident Research Day Award. “A Washington University physician provides world-renowned neurosurgical and spine care, with a compassionate touch, team-based approach and welcoming atmosphere. I am dedicated to providing exceptional care tailored to each patient to achieve optimal outcomes and improvements in quality of life.”

Wilson Zachary Ray, MD
Dr. Ray specializes in spinal oncology, spinal cord injury, metastatic spine disease, complex spinal reconstruction, degenerative cervical spine disease, rheumatoid arthritis, peripheral nerve tumors, brachial plexus injuries, peripheral nerve injuries, and nerve transfers for spinal cord injury. His research interests include strategies to improve nerve regeneration, the management of spinal cord injuries utilizing novel imaging modalities and surgical techniques to help predict functional recovery and provide patients with spinal cord injuries improved distal limb function.

Kumar Vasudevan, MD
Dr Vasudevan sees patients for both brain and spine conditions.
