Charles A. Lowenhaupt has been elected a member of the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation board of directors. He is the chairman and chief executive officer of Lowenhaupt & Chasnoff, L.L.C., the country''s first law firm to specialize in tax law.

Community service and philanthropy is a way of life for Lowenhaupt. He is a director of the Foundation for Fiduciary Studies, the Clements Library, Grand Center St. Louis and the St. Louis Art Museum. He is also a former commissioner of the Saint Louis Zoo.

"I was chairman of the former St. Louis Regional Medical Center Foundation," explains Lowenhaupt. "And I saw firsthand the importance of health-care philanthropy. I''ve seen it as part of my personal mission to try to raise awareness of what good philanthropy can do when it''s directed to health care."

Lowenhaupt served as a founding advisory faculty member for the Institute for Private Investors and currently advises the Institute as an emeritus member and contributor to its programs. An active member of the American and Missouri Bar Associations, he served as chairman of the Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax Subcommittee of the Estate and Gift Tax Committee of the American Bar Association Tax Section from 1995 to 2004.

Lowenhaupt concentrates in wealth counseling and estate planning. An extensive writer on matters relating to family wealth transmission and family philanthropy, he is a frequent contributor to The Deal, a financial news weekly. He has also traveled extensively to speak around the world on wealth management.

"We are delighted to have Mr. Lowenhaupt join our board," says S. Lee Kling, chairman, Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation board of directors. "He is a wonderful person with a previous track record in professionalism, philanthropy and great leadership skills. He is a most welcome addition. It''s also my pleasure to announce that three board members will continue their service for another term."

The Barnes-Jewish Hospital board reappointed the following Foundation board members: Thomas R. Corbett, partner, Thompson Coburn LLC; Steven C. Roberts, president, Roberts Broadcasting Company; and Peter A. Smith, corporate counsel, Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

The mission of Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation is to help relieve pain and suffering by providing financial support to enable the hospital to fulfill its purpose. The Foundation raises, manages and disburses the necessary funds to Barnes-Jewish Hospital, which U.S. News & World Report consistently ranks as one of America''s best hospitals.
