Excitement rippled through the crowd at Ball Park Village on Nov. 20 as Pedal the Cause revealed that it had raised $3.15 million for cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
This record-breaking total represented more than 30,000 donations. Nearly 4,000 people participated in this year’s event.
Since the cycling fundraiser began six years ago, Pedal the Cause has raised $12.5 million that has launched 56 new cancer research projects in St. Louis. Specifically, support from Pedal the Cause through The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital has helped fund 41 adult research projects, including those focused on personalized vaccines for melanoma and breast cancer, immune-based leukemia treatments, more effective pancreatic cancer treatments, and much more. Pedal the Cause funded another 15 pediatric research projects at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
Next year’s Pedal the Cause ride weekend is scheduled for Sept. 24 and 25.
