ST. LOUIS — On Wednesday, Barnes-Jewish Hospital will begin renovating the emergency department waiting area. The project will provide an improved environment for our patients and will provide emergency department staff a more efficient process to triage patients. The project will enhance patient flow, improve navigation and provide a more comfortable space for our patients.

A temporary building has been placed outside the emergency department to serve as a waiting room during renovations. During this renovation period, waiting area space will be limited. Patients reporting to the emergency department are being asked to bring no more than one guest to the waiting room. Special accommodations will be made for additional guests while the patient is in the emergency department. Additional staff will also be on hand to assist patients and their guests. The renovation project is expected to be complete mid-September.

The Charles F. Knight Emergency and Trauma Center was built in 2002. It is one of three adult Level I trauma centers in the region. With approximately 95,000 visits each year, the emergency department sees patients with a wide variety of diagnoses.
