The Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation board of directors appointed Barbara Monsees, MD, as the first holder of the Ronald and Hanna Evens Chair in Women''s Health at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Dr. Monsees is section chief of the Breast Imaging Section and professor of radiology at Washington University School of Medicine.

A graduate of Washington University School of Medicine, Dr. Monsees did her residency at the Mallinckrodt Institute. She is a nationally known breast imaging expert who chaired the Food and Drug Administration Mammography Advisory Committee, is a past president of the Society of Breast Imaging, and has served as a consultant/reviewer to the National Institutes of Health, the Institute of Medicine and the American Cancer Society.
Barnes-Jewish Hospital established the chair in honor of Ronald G. Evens, MD, and his wife, Hanna. Dr. Evens served as the hospital''s president for six years. The Evens Chair is one of 19 endowed chairs at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
"Over the last two decades Dr. Evens has given consistent encouragement and support to the development of the specialty of breast imaging," says Dr. Monsees. "In doing so, he has contributed to the well-being of women, their families and the community. It is fitting that he and Hanna have been awarded this lasting tribute, in the name of women''s health. I am honored to be selected as the first holder of this chair, and I will make every effort to fulfill the responsibilities that come with it."
