Leading the Pack
A sea of pink flooded downtown St. Louis on Saturday, June 13, as more than 66,000 breast cancer survivors, family, friends, supporters, celebrities and activists gathered for the 11th Annual Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure. The 5K event raised $3.25 million for breast cancer screening, treatment, education and research for the St. Louis community. The Siteman Cancer Center’s team raised the third largest amount among all teams, with just over $86,500 raised. The center received five grants in 2009 from the St. Louis affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization for projects dedicated to breast cancer screening, treatment, education and research.
