Registration
Guests are registered between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. Special consideration is given to relatives of registered guests who may arrive after 11:00 p.m. due to emergencies. Registration is made by the bed rather than by the room due to the demand for accommodations and to maintain affordable fees. There are two twin beds in each room. In order to best utilize the rooms, a single guest is required to share a room with another single guest of the same sex. Due to increasing demands for lodging services, we can provide only one room per family with a five-person limit. Each guest will receive a linen pack and soap at the time of registration.
Checkout Procedure
Checkout time is 3:00 p.m. Guests who check out after this time will be charged a portion of one night’s fee. Please advise the staff member on duty when you plan to check out. Timely communication of your plans will allow for a more expedient checkout and will give us the opportunity to offer our services to others on the waiting list. All guests must come to the Lodge office to check out.
Guest Bedrooms
Each bedroom is equipped with two twin beds, a television with Cable access and a clock radio. Sleeper chairs and extra linen are available for each additional person in the room. Cushioned mattress covers are available upon request.
Parking
Parking is provided on the lot adjacent to the east side of the building at no cost. The parking card issued at registration is required for entry and exit. Please do not leave the parking cards in your car as they are affected by both hot and cold temperatures. A fee will be charged for lost or damaged parking cards.
Fees
Lodge fees are collected by the Lodge staff member at the time of registration. Continued fees for long-term guests are due each Friday unless special payment arrangements are made with the Lodge manager. Our system prevents automatic billing after checkout.
Safety and Security
For your safety and security, the exterior doors of Barnes Lodge are locked at all times. It is necessary to ring a doorbell at the front and side doors in order to gain entry to the building. The staff member on duty is available to open the door for you. We ask that you never prop open the exterior doors, and never open the doors for others. All guests are required to present the identification card issued at registration to be admitted to the building. If you plan to be out past 9:30 p.m., please notify the Lodge staff member on duty.
Children
In keeping with our efforts to provide a “home away from home,” Barnes Lodge welcomes families with children. However, we do not provide cribs or other items especially designed for them. If these items are needed, we can assist with arrangements.
Pets
For the comfort of our guests, pets are not allowed.
Telephones
There are telephones for guest use in various areas of the building.
Laundry Room
A laundry room is located at the end of the hall on each floor for your use. Remember to clean the lint traps in the dryers after each use. To prevent disturbing guests who are located close to the laundry room, we ask that you use the laundry room between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. only.
Living Room, Television Rooms, Second Floor Quiet Room and Patio
These areas have been designed to meet the comfort needs of all guests. We ask that you help us keep these areas clean and orderly.
Trash Disposal
There is a dumpster at the rear of the building should you need it. The dumpster can be accessed by exiting the rear door in the kitchen. Please notify the staff person on duty when you need to access the dumpster. There is an alarm on the door.
Transportation
Transportation is available to and from the hospital. During registration, you will receive specific information regarding this service. We caution you against walking alone at night to and from the hospital.
Wheelchair Lift
A wheelchair lift is located in the first-floor hallway for those guests who are unable to use the stairway. If you require this service, please see a staff member for assistance regarding accessibility.
Alcohol, Smoking and Weapons
Alcoholic beverages, smoking and weapons are not allowed on the premises. A smoking area is provided on the patio. We ask that you not smoke at the front or side entrances. Guests who disregard this policy will be asked to check out immediately.
Fire and Other Emergencies
Barnes Lodge is equipped with smoke detectors, and there are fire extinguishers located in various areas in the building. Please familiarize yourself with the location of the extinguishers and the closest exit from your room in case of emergency. If you detect any emergency situation, please notify the staff member on duty and prepare to exit the building if needed.
Visitors
We welcome visitors to Barnes Lodge during open hours. Please advise the staff member on duty of their anticipated arrival. The Lodge is open for visitors between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.
Valuables
Barnes Lodge and Barnes-Jewish Hospital assume no responsibility for any losses or damage to personal items. Please use caution with valuable personal property.
Kitchen and Dining Room
Both eating and cooking utensils are provided. We ask that you not take food or beverages (except water) out of this area unless you are going to the patio. Please rinse all used utensils and put them in the dishwasher. As a dishwasher becomes full, feel free to start the wash cycle. When you have finished using this area, please wipe any spills, etc. from the tables, countertops, appliances and floor.
You will be assigned refrigerator and pantry space based on your room assignment. Since refrigerator space is limited, we ask that you limit your purchase of perishable items. Please mark all food items that will be refrigerated. At check out, please remove all items from the pantry and the refrigerator. You may leave unopened packages on the kitchen counter for use by other guests.
Problems or Questions
If you have problems or questions that have not been addressed, please discuss them with the Lodge staff. If your concerns are not fully addressed, ask to speak to the Lodge manager. We are committed to your comfort and safety and will assist you in any way that we can within the resources and mission of Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
