OUR COMMITMENT TO SAFETY AND QUALITY

In 2023, the safety of patients, families and team members, quality of care and a focus on improving the patient experience continued to be priorities for teams at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH), BJC HealthCare and Washington University School of Medicine. Significant strides were made in advancing new procedures, developing more efficient processes, and meeting and exceeding industry standards. A few highlights included:

• First robotic liver transplant in the U.S. performed by Washington University surgeons at BJH
• Responding to an all-time high demand for ICU beds
• Expanding the Telestroke Program, which connects all BJC hospitals to stroke experts 24/7
• Launching an interactive tool for BJC patients and families that closes the communication gap
• Achieving elite status among Magnet hospitals after receiving five consecutive designations
• Recognition of the Heart and Vascular Center by The Joint Commission
• Achieving 4 Stars for the first time in the CMS Quality Rating System
